Artist's Bio
Ben Callicott is a teenage musician from the Mid-South area. He primarily plays music similar to John Mayer and Jack Johnson. Though he enjoys writing and playing his own songs, Ben loves covering crowd-favorites and popular songs and making them his own.

After many years of being exposed to great music with the help of his parents, Ben decided to make a little noise of his own. Although being very ecstatic to learn, he got discouraged that he was not playing guitar as well as his idols. When Ben turned 12, the game changed. He picked the guitar back up and, with the help of bigger hands, soon became to be a proficient player. Through countless hours of practice and years of borderline obsession, Ben began to see music as more than just a hobby.

Junior high marked the first milestone in his musical career: He formed a band. Initially formed as a talent show act, the short time with the band served an important purpose in his journey because it taught him how to play with other people. At age 14, Ben discovered that he constantly found himself having visions of being a famous artist one day. There was only one problem; he didn't sing...well. Recognizing this marked a big time in the music timeline. Not having a strong enough voice to be a solo act yet, Ben sought out his eager musical friends and formed a band called "Shades of Grey" *(BEFORE the book series)
This was his first Real-Band experience. Shows, rehearsals, writing, etc.
After juggling lead singers, they finally found a voice in Savannah Simpson. Due to conflicting personalities and issues, the band unfortunately split in late fall of 2010.

Something had to be done about Ben's career as a singer. Seeing that he would benefit more from being a solo act, he set his goals on developing two things: his voice and a strong set list. This serves as the foundation of his sound today. Inspired mostly by John Mayer and Jack Johnson, Ben began trying to emulate their sound to the best of his ability.

By 10th grade, Ben realized that music was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He also realized that you have to start early for best chances of success. Ben switched schools after sophomore year to Briarcrest in Memphis, TN. The new school provided him more musical opportunities, one of which being a commercial music ensemble called SoundScape. Coming in as the band's new lead singer and guitar player, Ben had high hopes for what the band could offer. SoundScape played a major role in his vocal and artist development. After recording a full-length professional CD, Ben felt confident that he made the right decision. Along with the band, he is working very rigourously on his solo career, writing original songs and booking shows!
