Pub Patio Sessions: Brandon & Tommie Closson of Young Guns

Young Guns is a Memphis based "Full On" rock band founded by two brothers, Brandon Closson lead vocals and guitar, Tommie Closson lead guitar.

Their rock style transcends many different genres giving them a broad fan base, from Country to Metal and all styles in between, all enjoy the riffs and skill with which they deliver. The band credits their major influences to the many rock artists that have come before. Rather than running from the shadow these artists cast, they have embraced it and are poised to fill the void left behind by these great musicians. Live performances are where they shine, a truly high-energy show for all to enjoy. Crowds do not compare them to contemporary bands; rather they are compared to some of the greatest musicians of all time!

Brandon Closson, lead singer and guitarist, is the kind of person who pours everything he has into his music. As the youngest member, with his commanding presence, powerful voice, and skills as a frontman, you can’t help but be reminded of greats such as Robert Plant or Ronnie James Dio. With such influences as Deep Purple, Soundgarden, Boston, and Led Zeppelin, Brandon lives and sings in the moment, and it does not stop there. His guitar playing is fast and furious, bringing a unique hard edge to the sound of the band.

Playing the guitar for 9 years, Tommie Closson is one of the best rock/blues guitarists in Memphis. His passion for music started when he heard classic rock for the first time at a very young age. Tommie soars through solos and hammers out riffs that haven't been heard in 30 years, with the attack of Ritchie Blackmore, the soul of Jimi Hendrix, and the patience of Robin Trower. To further broaden his musical horizons, Tommie has explored many different kinds of music such as Jazz, Indian, and most specifically the Blues. As he states, "The blues will always be a part of me. It is the root of all music and that's never going to change.”

Their hard work is paying off as they have opened for hall of fame rockers ZZ Top as well as the likes of Blues Traveler and Top New Artist winner Luke Bryan all at Snowden Grove Amphitheater. Young Guns have also been featured supporting Eric Church on numerous tour stops throughout the delta region. They have graced many stages and festivals including Snowden Grove Amphitheater, El Dorado Music Fest AR, King Biscuit Blues Festival Helena AR, Cotton District Arts Festival Starkville MS, Market Street Festival Columbus MS, FedEx Forum at Memphis Grizzlies game, Channel 3 Live at 9, played at Minglewood Hall and the New Daisy on Beale St, Auto Zone Park, Delta Fair, 1884 Lounge, Margaritas in Marion, Arkansas, the Southern Hot Wing Festival – Main Street Memphis as well as supporters of the St. Jude Marathon. The response has been tremendous. Young Guns continue to hammer away at their craft and continue to make music for the world to rock.
