She co-wrote the song with George Receli (drummer for Bob Dylan).
Simien performs her own brand of "Swamp Soul." Her Swamp Soul is everything but traditional, She intertwines a Creole Zydeco influenced accordion with strong and soulful vocals. Her repertoire is a balance of original songs and unexpected covers that she takes ownership of. Paying homage to her musical ancestors, Simien respectfully references her Zydeco roots and even blends Creole French lyrics into her songs.
Her performances are an interactive and emotional experience for the audience who are at times encouraged to join the performance using percussion instruments she provides so they can chant, groove and dance rhythmically to the exotic sounds she creates. Her youthful spirit comes shining through her music and the energy of her live performances make you intrigued and longing for more.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana Marcella is currently living and working in Memphis. Graduated from Memphis College of Art in December of 2013. While her DNA is clearly in the creative arts, her music business sensibility is also well developed with a Mother who is an artist manager and agent. Cynthia has managed much of Terrance's career. It's a family affair! Music is a way of life for her and it was just as natural for her to meet Fats Domino and Art Neville at her Dad's concert as it was touring with Dave Matthews Band with her Dad as his tour support or having Taj Mahal sing her happy birthday when she turned 17!
