Hair of the Dog Brunch

Celtic Crossing Irish Pub will host the 4th annual brunch the day after Cooper-Young Festival to benefit The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County.

The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County will benefit from the Celtic Crossing 4th Annual Hair of the Dog Brunch, on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Celtic Crossing Irish Pub at 903 S. Cooper St.

Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome on Celtic Crossing’s patio anytime, and they are especially encouraged at The Hair of the Dog Brunch. The brunch will be held the Sunday after Cooper-Young Festival, which is one of the pub’s busiest weekends of the year, according to owner D.J. Naylor.

“Celtic Crossing has enjoyed being a part of the huge party that is Cooper-Young Festival for 11 years,” Naylor said. “We started the Hair of the Dog Brunch a few years ago as a way for us to not only help injured and abused animals in our community, but also treat ourselves after the busiest day of the year to a patio full of dogs, which we all love!”

The Hair of the Dog Brunch will feature a special canine-themed menu full of items designed to nurse a hangover, with dishes such as the Irish Wolfhound (a traditional Irish breakfast platter), and including options for vegetarians and limited options for vegans. Jim and Larkin, an acoustical duet, will provide authentic live Irish music starting at 11:30 a.m. Celtic Crossing will donate a portion of the proceeds from the event to HSMSC.

The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County has worked in the Memphis community since 1933 to give injured and abused dogs and cats a second chance at life. The organization provides a safe place to recover; nutritious food and outstanding veterinary care for an average of 300 animals at a time. Humane Society staff and volunteers provide training, affection and socialization to the animals in their care to help them be adopted successfully into new and loving homes. The Humane Society’s funding comes exclusively from private donations. For more information, visit, call 901-937-3900 or visit the facility at 935 Farm Road.
